It depends on when you were injured and whether your employer has a Medical Provider Network (MPN).
Here’s the general rule:
- If your employer has an MPN, you must choose a doctor within that network—but you still have the right to switch doctors within it if needed.
- If your employer doesn’t have an MPN, you may be able to choose your own doctor, but only after 30 days from the date you reported the injury.
- If you pre-designated your personal doctor before the injury occurred (in writing and under certain conditions), you may be able to see that doctor immediately.
The key is knowing your rights and the specific policies your employer follows. If your employer tries to force you to see someone you’re not comfortable with—or denies you a second opinion—we can help challenge that decision.
